Professor Sweetenham is professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado, USA. He is interested in a type of cancer called lymphoma and treating it with high doses of chemotherapy.

He is a former secretary of the UK Lymphoma Group and the UKCCCR Lymphoma Subcommittee, and is a member of the Southwest Oncology Group's lymphoma committee.
